Volvo cars are recognized as having a reputation for reliability and solidity, while its reputation may now be tested as the company has issued a recall on 30,929 model-year 2011-2012 S60 vehicles manufactured between June 22, 2010 and May 14, 2012.
While this particular model did receive a 5 star safety rating by the EuroNCAP, there is no way the organization could have determined that its faulty oil pressure gauge may not alert drivers during a low oil pressure situation. If the driver is never alerted of such situation, they may continue driving until the vehicle stalls, therefore increasing the chance of an accident.
Owners of the 2011-2012 S60 Volvo are eligible to receive a free software upgrade, so the driver can be alerted if a low oil-pressure situation should occur. Vehicle owners can contact Volvo at 1-800-458-1552, using the recall campaign code R29436.
