Multiple Fatalities Reported in Tennessee I-40 Wreck | Knoxville TN

As of 5:00p.m, eight fatalities have been reported in an afternoon multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 40 just 40 miles from Knoxville, Tennessee. Approximately 14 more have reportedly been injured. According to reports a charter bus traveling eastbound on the interstate had a tire blowout which caused the bus to veer across the grass median and collided with a tractor-trailer. An SUV was also involved in the collision.
The bus which was traveling from Statesville, North Carolina was carrying approximately 18 people, members of the Front Street Baptist Church, at the time of the collision. The bus overturned during the time of impact and tractor-trailer caught fire. According to state officials traffic is being rerouted as the accident is investigated and debris cleared.
Four patients were transferred via helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and others transported via emergency medical transportation.
