Volkswagen Class Action Lawsuit

Volkswagen emissions exhaustLeading German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has recently admitted to installing deceptive software to falsify pollution test records in order to pass emission tests. If your vehicle was affected by Volkswagen's deceptive software, you may be entitled to damages. Greg Coleman Law will assist you in filing a Volkswagen emissions lawsuit. Contact us at (865) 247-0080 to discuss your claim, or complete our online form.

Deceptive Vehicle Computer Software

In order to pass government emission tests, Volkswagen installed deceptive emission control software on multiple vehicle models. This technology caused emission controls to operate properly while emissions inspections were being conducted, but turned them off once the vehicles were back on the road.

Touted as producing less greenhouse emissions than gasoline engines, certain Volkswagen clean diesel vehicles were actually producing as much as 40 times more nitrogen oxides than what is allowed legally. While these vehicles were marketed as environmentally friendly automobiles, they were producing harmful emissions which violated the Clean Air Act. The emission of nitrogen oxides by vehicles can increase the volume of deadly soot particles; such particles cause around 50,000 deaths in the United States every year. With far more Volkswagens on the road in Europe, it is estimated that the death toll from Volkswagen's emissions cheating is in the hundreds worldwide.

Vehicles Emissions Recall Information

The Volkswagen emissions scandal affects around 500,000 automobiles in the United States and approximately 11 million around the world. Volkswagen vehicle models which were affected by the emissions scandal include:

  • Jetta, Beetle and Golf models manufactured from 2009 to 2015
  • 2014 and 2015 Passat models
  • Audi A3 models manufactured from 2009 to 2015
  • 2015 Touareg
  • 2015 Porsche Cayenne
  • 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L and Q5

Currently, no recall has been announced for these vehicle models. Volkswagen has discontinued the sales of the affected models and has announced that the company will service automobiles which have been sold previously. There may be an additional 85,000 vehicles affected as well, following an accusation by the Environmental Protection Agency. Affected models are those with 3.0 liter V-6 engines, including Sport Utility Vehicle (SUVs) and luxury autos from Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen, dating from 2009-2016.

How the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal Affects Owners

Volkswagen drivers who own one of the models affected by the scandal have been defrauded by the manufacturer. Clean diesel models were sold at a premium due to their advertised environmental benefits and advanced performance compared to gasoline models; owners paid higher purchase prices for vehicles, expecting the stated benefits. These vehicles have a lower resale value due to the emissions scandal, further affecting owners.

Volkswagen is currently being investigated by 30 or more states and the District of Columbia for environmental violations and defrauding consumers.
