Survey: A Third of Young Drivers Text While Driving

Nearly 30 percent of young drivers, ages 16 to 21, admit to texting while driving in the past month, according to a survey by Consumer Reports. Eight out of ten drivers said they knew about the dangers of texting and driving. Forty-seven percent of young drivers said they had talked on the phone while driving, without using a hands-free device.
Traffic fatalities declined last year, but experts believe that the fatalities would be lower if not for traffic deaths caused by distracted driving. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that in 2010, 3092 people were killed in distracted-effected crashes.
