The grandfather and grandson that perished in a wreck in Newport Monday evening have been identified. The Cocke County authorities identified the grandfather as Charles McMahan and grandson as Dylan Fisk, 6.
The two were killed on Highway 25/70 East when their passenger car was rear-ended by an SUV and slammed into a tree, becoming sandwiched between the two. The vehicle was being driven by McMahan's daughter and the family was pulling into their driveway when the crash occurred; she escaped the deadly wreck with minor injuries.
The driver of the SUV, William Stokely, doesn't have any recollection of the collision, according to authorities. Charges against Stokely are pending and the Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
The family's neighbors will be holding a fundraiser to benefit the victims families at 6:00 PM this Saturday, June 8 at 1650 East Highway 25/70.
