Side Effects Are Severe

The drug has been found to cause severe kidney problems, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The drug is also dangerous for pregnant women and can cause birth defects and damage the fetus.

Sprue-Like Enteropathy

One of the more severe side effects of Benicar is its tendency to cause patients to develop a Celiac like disease called sprue-like enteropathy. The symptoms include:

  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Constant nausea
  • Inability to keep food down and vomiting
  • Inability to urinate

The Condition May Not Occur For Years

One of the most concerning aspects of the Benicar side effects is that patients may experience harm at any stage. A review of the Benicar data in a study by the University of Paris reveals that individuals can develop symptoms even years after taking the drug. This means that doctors may misdiagnose the conditions caused by the use of Benicar.

Side Effects May Cause Lasting Conditions

Unfortunately, in some cases, the side effects dont completely recede. While the study also revealed that when individuals stop taking Benicar their temporary symptoms recede. In some patients, the damage may be permanent.
